Legal Fee Whistleblower PageWe receive regular inquiries from law firm personnel exposed to questionable billing practices by lawyers or administrators at their law firms. Typical situations include secretaries told to bill and describe their non-billable clerical duties as "paralegal" time, paralegals billing for clerical duties, and lawyers or others who have been asked to inflate their time or make their time entries misleading or inaccurate. Not all these situations involve illegal or unethical conduct -- a sharp business practice is not necessarily an illegal or unethical one. The people contacting us are honest people caught in a difficult situation, often worried about their jobs or reputations if they blow the whistle on the lawyer involved. Some are also worried about the impact on the firm's client. To provide these people with a confidential outlet for their concerns, while protecting their anonymity, Devil's Advocate has created this special Internet form. The information generated by this form will not be traced back to its source. If you believe you have information about a questionable billing situation, fill out the form below. All we ask is that you provide us with accurate information that is not confidential or privileged. We may use these anecdotes in our own articles and reports, to document the widespread problems with legal bills. We cannot, however, represent you nor are we agreeing to take steps to remedy your specific problem. For that, you should promptly contact a bar referral service to find a local lawyer to represent you, report the problem to the local bar, or possibly report the problem to other law enforcement officials. Reporting your problem to us does not stop any deadlines from running if you want to resolve your problem. |
